Resurrection, grocery team up for screenings
Posted on: Saturday, October 02, 2004
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to help make women 40 years of age and older aware of the importance of having an annual mammogram, Resurrection Health Care and Dominick's Finer Foods stores are working together for the eighth consecutive year to offer women an incentive to schedule a mammogram by visiting any of 10 selected Dominick's stores.

Representatives from Resurrection Health Care hospitals will be at Dominick's stores in October to provide education on breast-screening, schedule appointments for mammograms and offer physician referrals for women who do not have a personal doctor. Women who visit one of the participating Dominick's stores and sign up for a mammogram will receive a $10 Dominick's gift card after completion of their mammogram at a participating Resurrection Health Care facility.

Mammograms can be scheduled at: Westlake Hospital, Melrose Park; Holy Family Medical Center, Des Plaines; Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, Resurrection Medical Center, Resurrection Open MRI and Imaging Center, St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital Center and St. Elizabeth Hospital, all in Chicago; St. Francis Hospital, Evanston; and West Suburban Medical Center, Oak Park.

The American Cancer Society estimates that 216,000 cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year, and claim 40,000 lives --1,790 of them in Illinois. One of every eight women in the United States has a lifetime risk of breast cancer. The Cancer Society recommends annual mammograms for women 40 and older.
